Dr. Dave's research focuses on various aspects of cerebral ischemia and hemorrhagic stroke.

Diabetes and stroke

Cerebral ischemia and heart disease are the most serious complications of diabetes, accounting for more than 84% of the mortality among diabetics. Epidemiological studies of cerebral ischemia suggest that diabetes both increases the risk of incidence and exacerbates the consequences of cerebral ischemia. Our research aims to understand the mechanisms by which diabetes increases the risk of cerebral ischemia and also cerebral ischemic damage

Hemorrhagic stroke

Despite being the cause of significant morbidity and mortality, spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) remains the least treatable stroke subtype. The prevention of hematoma expansion in sICH is an attractive therapeutic target. Currently, we are evaluating a novel strategy to limit hematoma expansion in a rodent model of sICH

Tobacco and spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhagic

Smoking is one of the main risk factors for spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH): the deadliest subtype of stroke. However, the effect of smoking on outcomes following sICH is not known. The goal of this project is to determine the effect of chronic nicotine exposure on outcomes following sICH
